Urban tourism focuses on bringing visitors to inner-city areas rather than the traditional historical sites and nature reserves. The idea sets on creating special visitor districts which combine various attractions such as cultural, sports, hospitality, shopping and amusement activities all in one clustered location to help stimulate the urban economy. With this new competitive advantage, the city can promote itself, create a unique yet strong local identity and pave its way into the global world.

The Second Jerusalem International Tourism Summit for 2013 is initiated by the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Tourism, the Jerusalem Municipality and the Jerusalem Development Authority in cooperation with the Hebrew University and the Jerusalem International Convention Center. The conference will focus on Planning Models for Urban Tourism and new tourism technologies while discussing the challenges and trends that influence world tourism. The summit will bring together global leaders, entrepreneurs, investors and experts in the field of tourism to conduct panels on a wide range of subjects that affect tourism in general and urban tourism in particular. The international gathering of decision makers will bring together a business network offering important and influential discussions and connections within the industry. The JITS is one of the most important annual conferences in the field of tourism, presenting Israel as a Start-Up Nation and Jerusalem as a leader of technology.
