The ceremony, in memory of the AMIA bombing that killed 85 people, was held in the presence of Mr. Carlos Faustino Garcia, Argentinian ambassador to Israel, Mr. Gidi Mark, CEO of Taglit-Birthright Israel and young adults. 

Taglit –Birthright Israel commemorated, this morning (Wednesday 18/7), the AMIA bombing against the Jewish community that killed 85 people in Argentina in 1994. The memorial took place at Rabin Square, in the presence of Mr. Carlos Faustino Garcia, Argentinian ambassador to Israel, Mr. Gidi Mark, CEO of Taglit-Birthright Israel, together with 160 young adults – participants of the birthright delegation from Argentina and activists from the Argentinian Jewish community in Israel.

"Every year we commemorate the horrible attack in which innocent Argentinians were killed" said Mr. Gidi Mark, CEO of Taglit-birthright Israel. "The young adults from Argentina who are participating in the ceremony in Israel were too young to remember the trauma which left a deep scar in the heart of the Jewish community in Argentina. For this reason, it is of great importance that these youngsters are present today. The visit to Israel enables them to connect to their Jewish identity and to become aware of the Israeli Jewish community from close up, who consider themselves true friends of their brothers in Argentina".

This is the 11th year in which Taglit-Birthright Israel has held this ceremony. During the 13 years of Taglit-Birthright Israel activity, 12,000 participants from Argentina have visited Israel, which adds up to over 300,000 participants from around the world.

The deadly terror attack took place in Argentina's capital of Buenos Aires on the July 18, 1994, when a Lebanese suicide bomber blew up a car bomb which killed 85 people and injured over 330. Argentinian Jews and Israelis were the target of the two attacks which took place in Argentina and are considered to be the worst attacks of their kind Argentina..
