Senior officials in the tourism industry of the isle of Gran Canaria in the Canary islands are to arrive in Israel this week, to take part in a special event hosted in Tel Aviv, where they will present the main attractions the magical Island has to offer the Israeli tourist, aiming to increase the scope of their activity with Israeli travel agents
Gran Canaria and the Canary islands are a new attractive destination for the Israeli tourist, with something to offer for every season of the year.
The event will he held on May 8th, 2013, at 18:30, at Sheraton Hotel, Tel Aviv.

The event’s participants will include representatives from the Gran Canaria tourism industry, travel agents, travel agents fromTAMADABA TOURS and hoteliers.
Located in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the south western coast of Morocco, The Canary Islands are an archipelago, counted among the 17 autonomous communities of Spain. The seven islands are located over one thousand kilometers south of the Iberian Peninsula and only 115 kilometers from the nearest point on the coast of Africa. Their volcanic origin and particular location in the Atlantic Ocean have given unique characteristics to their geology and vegetation, resulting in scenery like no other in Europe or Africa. The islands’ natural parameters contribute to a stable climate with mild temperature changes (an average of 22 degrees centigrade at the coastline) and only minor temperature differences between night and day. This perpetual spring allows visitors and locals to enjoy the beaches all year round without oppressive extreme heat. It has also contributed to the kind and laid back disposition of the local residents.
Gran Canaria is the second largest of the Canary Islands and it boasts 350 sunny days a year. The Island is cone shaped - 60 kilometers in diameter and 1,950 meters high and furrowed with deep ravines stemming from its center. Most of its beaches are located on its southern side, where the climate is dry and the sky is blue. Roughly 50 of the 236 kilometers of the island’s coastline are organized beaches offering various activities. The golden dune beaches of Maspalomas are a well known tourist attraction. Gran Canaria also offers green, wild scenery and mountainous areas with many virginal, secluded corners. Visitors to the island will discover a variety of natural phenomena and vegetation found nowhere else in the world. This uniqueness gave the island the name “miniature continent”. The amazing abundance of varied attractions and sights has made Gran Canaria the destination for millions of tourists a year, wishing to enjoy not only the sun and ocean, but also the beautiful rural areas, local culture and excellent tourism infrastructure.
Las Palmas is the island’s capital, and the largest city in The Canaries. Catedral de Santa Ana is the city’s main church and its construction took 350 years. Playa del Ingles is considered The Canary Islands’ party hotspot, with millions of tourists from all over Europe thronging to it all year round, looking to sunbathe, swim and enjoy themselves. A good place for shopping can be found at Mayor de Triana Street, a lovely pedestrian mall in Last Palmas. The Columbus museum houses a collection of navigation maps and various artifacts dating from before the discovery of America, brought to The Canaries from Latin America, as well as ship models and paintings, most of them portraits. Dedicated entirely to documenting the history of Gran Canaria, Museo Canario is the city’s main museum. At the museum, visitors can find an impressive collection of Cro-Magnon skulls (a species of prehistoric humans), a display of tools used by the Guanches tribe, and a special collection of potsherds. Gran Canaria is also offering a variety of entertainments: graet restaurants, pubs, discotheques, casinos, life music and a big selection of excellent hotels and accommodation on the island from 5* luxury to excellent villas and touristic apartments. The great carnival takes place every February / March in Las Palmas and is the most colorful and biggest of the Canary Islands – and the only one where people can participate and interact on the street parades.
The Canary Island’s total area is 7,447 square kilometers, the total length of the beaches is 1,583 kilometers and their population is approximately one million. As aforementioned, the archipelago is comprised of seven islands: Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. The Islands offer sunny weather all year round, incredible beaches and picturesque villages. The island of Tenerife is the largest (2,059 square kilometers), while El Hierro is the smallest and most western. The highest point on the islands, and in fact in all of Spain, is the top of Mount Teide at 3,718 meters above sea level.
There are no direct flights from Israel to The Canaries, but they can be easily reached on a connection flight from one of a number of destinations in Europe, the most convenient and cost effective of them being Madrid and Barcelona. Approximately 3.2 millions of tourists visited the island of Gran Canaria in 2012.
Between all the Canary Islands it is easy to travel either by air via the local air company “Binter Canarias”, which provides many flights and a good timetable to choose from between all the islands. As well there are many excellent boat connections.
