6th EU-Israel Seminar on Combating Anti-Semitism, Racism and Xenophobia was held in Jerusalem
The sixth seminar on the fight against Anti-Semitism, Racism and Xenophobia was held in Jerusalem on 18-19 June, bringing together officials, diplomats and experts from both Israel and the European Union.
The seminar, held annually, reflects the importance attributed by both the EU and Israel to the fight against anti-Semitism, racism and xenophobia.
Over the two days of the Seminar issues such as data and trends of racism and anti-Semitism in the EU, combating hate speech, access to justice as an effective redress against discrimination and hate crimes, prevention though education, training and Holocaust remembrance were discussed.
Representing the EU were EU Ambassador to Israel, Mr. Andrew Standley and Mr. Antoine Buchet, Deputy Head of Unit at the European Commission Directorate-General for Justice as well as a number of European experts in the field and representatives of the European Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA). On the Israel side were Deputy Director General of the Europe Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Raphael Schutz, the Director for the Department for Combating Anti-Semitism at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Gideon Bechar, Director of the World Jewish Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Shmuel Ben Shmuel as well as experts from the Ministry of Justice, academics and representatives from Yad Vashem.
