20 years of friendly diplomatic and commercial relations between Slovenia and Israel
The crème de la crème of Israel’s Diplomatic Corps and business and commercial leaders met last Thursday at the Herzlia Pituach home of the Ambassador of Slovenia, to drink a toast honoring that country’s Independence Day, as well as to celebrate 20 years of friendly diplomatic and commercial relations between Slovenia and Israel.
During the cordial hospitality of the Slovenian Ambassador, six months into her position here, the Ambassador related in her speech to the assembled guests that a recent global survey, conducted on reading books by the average person in various counties, revealed that Slovenia ranks first in the world, followed by Israel (!). Her excellency further noted the great emphasis her fellow countrymen put on the books and literature, and that many books in Hebrew have been translated into Slovenian.
Representing the Israeli Government was Minister of Culture and Sport, Ms. Limor Livnat, who welcomed the fact that a woman holds this distinguished post. Minister Livnat also noted that the cultural issues are an important instrument in relations between the two countries.
The many Ambassadorial and other guests were treated to the finest traditional dairy cuisine. Not to be forgotten was the Slovenian national cocktail, consisting of vegetables, a little alcohol and lots of parsley.
Translated from the Hebrew by Jonathan Danilowitz
