His Excellency Mr. Isaac Gilinski, Ambassador of Colombia in Israel, hosted a scintillating reception to mark the Colombian National Day of Independence. Colombia has been a free and independent country for over 200 years now, and in the Ambassador’s words: “Israel and Colombia have been close partners and friends for several decades. We share common values and a respect for democratic governance and the rule of law”.

 

Among the distinguished guests, which included members of the Diplomatic Corps, representatives of the Israeli government (including Minister of Agriculture Ms. Orit Noked) and Colombians living in Israel, was former Colombian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Noemi Sanin, always a great friend of Israel. The former Colombian Ambassador to Israel, Mr. David de la Rosa and his wife Grace , also graced the event with his presence.

 

On Tuesday, July 24, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will deliver the keynote address at “Imagine the Unimaginable: A Symposium on Ending Genocide in the 21st Century” presented by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, in cooperation with the Council on Foreign Relations and CNN. The symposium will explore the challenges of preventing genocide in the 21st Century.

The ceremony, in memory of the AMIA bombing that killed 85 people, was held in the presence of Mr. Carlos Faustino Garcia, Argentinian ambassador to Israel, Mr. Gidi Mark, CEO of Taglit-Birthright Israel and young adults. 

Taglit –Birthright Israel commemorated, this morning (Wednesday 18/7), the AMIA bombing against the Jewish community that killed 85 people in Argentina in 1994. The memorial took place at Rabin Square, in the presence of Mr. Carlos Faustino Garcia, Argentinian ambassador to Israel, Mr. Gidi Mark, CEO of Taglit-Birthright Israel, together with 160 young adults – participants of the birthright delegation from Argentina and activists from the Argentinian Jewish community in Israel.

A few days ago, Ladislaus “Laszlo” Csatary, the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s #1 most wanted Nazi war criminal was found living in Budapest based on information provided by the Center.

Maestro Zubin Mehta himself introduced the program for the 77th season of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) at a press conference on Sunday. In his usual casual and friendly mode, dropping Yiddishisms as he spoke, he was clearly delighted with the schedule as he revealed highlights to the attentive audience.
