The event is being held by Hamidrasha Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Oranim and the New Israel Fund, and will take place on Wednesday, 27th March, 18:30, at Beit Ha’ir, Bialik Square, 27 Bialik Street, Tel Aviv.

Passover will take place this year between sunset on Monday 25 March, and sunset on Monday 1 April.  The first and last days of Passover – Tuesday 26 March and Monday 1 April – are legal holidays in Israel.  Passover marks the exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt, from slavery to freedom.  Jews are commanded to tell the story as if it had happened to them personally and not as a mere historical event, in order to emphasize the importance of our hard-won and precious freedom.

Preparations for Passover

The period preceding Passover is marked by extensive preparations and several special ceremonies.  The most important of these concerns the removal of hametz, i.e. any food product that contains leavened wheat, oat, barley, rye, or spelt products.  In keeping with the Biblical command in Exodus 12:19<http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Bible/Exodus12.html> and 13:7<http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Bible/Exodus13.html>, Jews will, before Passover, thoroughly clean their homes to remove any crumbs or bits of food, etc. that may be hametz.

On February 28th 2013, The Royal Thai Embassy to Israel presented “Enchanting Night of Thai Exquisite Performance”, a recital of different traditional Thai dances performed by the Royal Palace Ensemble at the Gerard Bechar Center in Jerusalem.

Directed by Dr. Anucha Thirakanont, the show is part of a world tour and was presented in Israel for two days under the auspices of the Ambassador of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Jukr Boon-Long.

Concert number 3 of the 2012-2013 season (the 47th season) of the Israel Chamber Orchestra is a delightful series of works by Felix Mendelssohn; two grand piano concertos, and after the intermission, a symphony composition. We attended the concert at the Recanati Auditorium of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art on Thursday 14th March (the date is important – see below), and we expected it would be a fine performance. Little did we know just how fine.

TOURISM MINISTER STAS MISEZHNIKOV “The tourism potential for Israel from China is far from realized and one of the goals of the ministry for 2013 is to break through into the Chinese market. Undoubtedly, the effect of a movie, shot in Israel with leading Chinese stars, will be greater and more significant that other alternative marketing activities”.A well-known Chinese production company is set to shoot scenes in Israel next month for a Chinese epic called “Old Cinderella” that is expected to be a blockbuster movie thanks to the stars such as Zhang Jingchu (“Rush Hour 3”) and director Lu Chuan.  More than 15 of the 95 minutes in the movie are expected to feature scenes shot in Israel. During a recce in Israel in January 2013, the production team chose Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Jerusalem and the Dead Sea as their locations. 22 members of the production team and cast will arrive in Israel on 16 April for a week of filming, assisted by a local film production company.
