Concert number 3 of the 2012-2013 season (the 47th season) of the Israel Chamber Orchestra is a delightful series of works by Felix Mendelssohn; two grand piano concertos, and after the intermission, a symphony composition. We attended the concert at the Recanati Auditorium of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art on Thursday 14th March (the date is important – see below), and we expected it would be a fine performance. Little did we know just how fine.

Preparations for Passover
The period preceding Passover is marked by extensive preparations and several special ceremonies. The most important of these concerns the removal of hametz, i.e. any food product that contains leavened wheat, oat, barley, rye, or spelt products. In keeping with the Biblical command in Exodus 12:19<http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Bible/Exodus12.html> and 13:7<http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Bible/Exodus13.html>, Jews will, before Passover, thoroughly clean their homes to remove any crumbs or bits of food, etc. that may be hametz.
