Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, this evening (Monday, 18 March 2013), made the following remarks at the first meeting of Israel's 33rd Government
"This is the third time that I have had the honor of opening a meeting of a new government. I must tell you that I am moved. This is not self-evident. Nothing here is self-evident and we all bear the great responsibility, the responsibility and the privilege.
Of all the three times that I have had this privilege of leading the State of Israel, I cannot remember a more challenging period vis-à-vis the accumulated risks on one hand and the opportunities on the other, and of course, the expectations of Israel's citizens. I think that it is within our power to meet all of these challenges, without exception.
Following the announcement of a new Israeli Government, the Foreign Secretary William Hague, said:
“I welcome the formation of the new Israeli Government. I warmly congratulate Prime Minister Netanyahu on his second consecutive term in office at this important time in Israel’s history. We look forward to working with his new Government to further develop our strong bilateral relations and to advance our successful partnerships in areas such as trade, security, science, technology and higher education.
President Shimon Peres, this evening (Monday, 18 March 2013), at his Jerusalem residence, made the following remarks at the traditional photograph with the new government:
"I am pleased to host the 33rd Government of the State of Israel here at the President's Residence. It is a government that has both veteran members and new faces, a government that has those with experience in government work and abilities in other, varied fields. It is a government which will provide a fresh breeze.
Today (17 March 2013) Israel marks 21 years since the terrorist bombing of its embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina and remembers the 29 people killed and the hundreds who were wounded. The attack, carried out by Hizbullah under Iranian sponsorship, was one of the most horrific attacks on a diplomatic mission.
